a developer survey - PC for dev environment

My good friend and fellow Microsoft Regional Director Adam Cogan asked me the following question today. I was curious what you thought so I decided to ask you as well:

What are you going to be using going forward (and why)?

1. WINDOWS 2008 R2 Release Candidate

2. WINDOWS 7 Release Candidate

3. VISTA ?

4. OTHER

Respond in the comments if you would. I'm really curious! Thanks!

Windows 7 RC, Coolness of Vista Speed of W2K8. Besides, I love the WinKey + LeftArrow/RightArrow shortcut! :0)

Vista/SP2 for a few more months, then Windows 7 RTM (why deal with the pave-over when its just a few months more to RTM). Plenty of 2k8servers running in VMs on the network, but not the main dev box. Coding is 99% of the time, not 100.

Defininately Win7, it's awesome fast and great UI improvement. I'm also going for dual boot with Win2k8 and hyper-V (stability) for demos and talks (that need stability ;-)) once R2 RTMs i'll go with that on the dual boot.

Cheers,

Been running Windows Server 2008 64-Bit(optimised for desktop usage) since October 2008 as my primary developer workstation and I cannot begin to express the solid stability and speed experienced in this time. Way better than WinXP (SP3) or Vista (despite the core codebase being shared between Vista and Win2K8)and this was on a Dell D830 with 4Gb RAM.

It is especially useful begin able to run Hyper-V for development and testing on the same box though!

However if the hype turns out to be fact, I'm likely to switch to Win7 64-Bit. I just hope Visual Studio 2010 can sort out the "Edit and Continue" issue that doesn't work with 64-Bit under Visual Studio 2008.
